A. General Responsibilities:
a. The Music Director shall be responsible for the planning and performance (including special music selection, accompaniment, and vocals) of all music within the church and work with selection of non-hymn/song music with input from the Minister, Music Committee, and Diaconate.
b. The Director shall coordinate with the Minister on hymn/song selection in worship
c. The Director must gain the approval of the Music Committee prior to committing church groups or resources to an event not specifically sponsored by the church.
d. Ensuring all responsibilities are covered when on vacation/missed Sundays. The Minister may wave this responsibility due to emergency/illness.
e. General maintenance of organ and piano (regular tuning, checking humidifier, etc)
B. Planing and Coordinating Music
a. The Director will plan all special music performances in worship with coordination of the pastor
b. The Director shall have the discretion of hiring vocalists, accompanist, purchasing background tracks, etc for weekly special music within the bounds of the budgeted funds and coordination with the Minister.
c. The Director shall work with any member or group who wishes to preform for special music.
d. Consulting with the Music Committee and Minister on Summer Music
C. Worship Services
a. Select and preform/supply Opening music, Special music, and postlude
b. Coordinate with minister on hymn selection, and preform/supply background music
c. Supply the text of hymns/song sung by the congregation for PowerPoint and ensure they match background music
d. Work with pastor to select, and coordinate performance of music for Services of Significance (Passion Sunday, Resurrection Sunday, Christmas eve, etc)
D. Administrative Responsibilities
a. Work with the Music Committee/Diaconate, Minister, and Treasurer to prepare an annual music budget to be present to the Board of Trustees and Council for review and approval in December and inclusion in the overall operating budget presented at the Annual Congregational Meeting.
b. Work with the Treasurer, Music Committee/Diaconate, and Minister as needed to help ensure music spending remains within the budget.
c. Work with the Music Committee to prepare a report at the end of the calendar year for the Annual Congregation Report.
d. Participate in Music Fund fundraisers (including Lenten Fish Fry)
E. Base Compensation
a. The Director of Music’s Annual work/compensation schedule will be September through May with June, July, and August off.
b. The Director shall be compensated $600 monthly.
c. The Director of Music will be entitled to three weeks paid time off (PTO) during the term of the agreement. PTO will not roll over from term to term. This is to encourage the director to take time away for self-care and sabbath. PTO cannot be taken during times of significance (Rally Day, Christian Holiday Services, etc) and all requests must be submitted to the Minister and Music chair in writing.
d. The Director of Music shall be compensated $100 per event for performances not explicitly defined above.
